While June is typically the most popular month for weddings, In New Mexico, September seems to be the ideal month to get married. The weather is practically perfect and this year in particular had brides vying for the coveted 9/10/11 wedding date. My personal calendar consists of a wedding every weekend this month. While my circle of friends include several brides to be, my spa has also been jam-packed with bridal treatment appointments. Between spray tans, make-up applications, facials, peels, and more, I thought I would share my top bridal beauty do’s and don’ts when preparing for your big day.
Do opt for a spray tan to give your skin a healthy and natural glow on our big day.
Don’t get a spray tan on the day of our nuptials. I advise all brides to do a trial run on a spray tan a couple of weeks prior to your big day and then about two days before your actual wedding day. This way you know what to expect from your tan and how your skin holds the color.
Don’t overdo your look. Many brides go a tad overboard when it comes to bridal make-up and they end up looking unrecognizable. You want to look like the best version of yourself so avoid looking extremely theatrical and opt for neutral colors with emphasis on the eyes or lips to accentuate your overall look.
Do hire a professional make-up artist for your big day. Your make-up artist will know exactly what colors are flattering for your skin type and how to apply it correctly so it compliments your pictures and is long-lasting.
Do develop a skincare regimen to include professional treatments (i.e. facials, peels, microdermabrasion) as well as a healthy and consistent home skincare routine about 6 to 9 months before your big day.
Don’t do any harsh skincare treatments less than ten days prior to your wedding day. Believe me, you don’t want the stress of having to deal with a bad breakout or skin irritation as a result of a peel or other advanced skincare treatment days before your walk down the aisle. Give yourself ample time for skin to adjust, heal, and improve after your skincare service.
